Do you and grandpa live together?

Unfortunately, we don't! Grandpa lives by himself in the South of France (in a beautiful, cosy home that grandma and him moved into 20+ years ago) and I live in Sydney, Australia. We only get to spend time together when I fly over, usually 2-3 times a year. I stay for around 3 months in total per year, and I base myself at his home when I'm there, so luckily, I get to spend a lot of time with him. I'm so grateful for it!

How did the MFG journey begin?

I started sharing videos of my grandpa cooking in 2021, never expecting his warm, skillful approach to touch the hearts of so many people. Growing up, I cherished time in my grandparents’ kitchen, where my grandmother’s magic and grandpa’s steady presence shaped my love of food.

When she passed, I expected to take over the cooking whenever I visited grandpa, but to my surprise, he quietly stepped into her role, adding his own thoughtful touches to her recipes. Watching his methodical, heart-filled approach was so moving that I couldn’t help but step back and let him take over the kitchen.

Then one day, I filmed him cooking - just to capture the moment. His warmth and charm resonated with people everywhere online, and now, with over 200 million views, and thousands of requests for a cookbook later, here we are!

What do you use to shoot your content, and who edits the videos?

I shoot all my videos on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. At first, it was just me handling both shooting and editing, but as my job took more of my time, I taught my dad how to edit so he could help me out. It's a lot of work 😅, but nothing makes us happier than seeing the videos come together.

Who does grandpa cook for?

He cooks mainly for my dad and I (or just my dad, whenever I'm in Sydney). Sometimes, we have family and friends come over and he'll cook for them too of course, but that's only every now and then. My Australian friends looooove coming to grandpa's and trying his dishes.

What was grandpa's profession earlier in life?

He was a high school teacher, focussing on sports and science.

Where is grandma?

She sadly passed away 10 years ago this year - it still feels like yesterday. Grandpa and grandma met at 13 years old, and shared a beautiful and long life together, deeply in love and happy, right up until the very end. She was our world, and we miss her every day.
